The southern gateway of the OMR corridor, with several universities and a large hospital, and the best-value prices of the corridor.
Kelambakkam is a town on Old Mahabalipuram Road in Chengalpattu district, on the south-eastern side of the Chennai region beyond Siruseri and Padur. It has been called the southern gateway to Chennai on OMR. It links OMR with the GST Road at Vandalur through the Kelambakkam to Vandalur road and with East Coast Road towards Kovalam, and it is known for a cluster of university campuses and a large multi-speciality hospital.
Kelambakkam is about 5 km from the Siruseri IT park and about 12 km from Sholinganallur junction. VIT Chennai, SSN, Hindustan University and Chettinad Academy and Hospital are all around it, and the Siruseri SIPCOT IT Park is the main office employer within reach. It is outside the Greater Chennai Corporation limits, and no metro line is approved to reach it.

Metro status. No metro to Kelambakkam is currently approved. A roughly 23.5 km extension from Siruseri to Kilambakkam was dropped in May 2024 after a study found peak demand of about 5,000 passengers against a 12,000 benchmark, and a Kelambakkam to Thiruporur route was reported as being considered, with no decision. An airport to Kilambakkam line has been proposed, but it serves the GST Road, not OMR.

Kelambakkam is about 12 km from Sholinganallur junction. Drive it at your own hour, and add the toll and the fuel or fare to your monthly costs.
Ask about the local body and services
Kelambakkam is in Chengalpattu district, outside the Greater Chennai Corporation limits. Ask who handles water supply, waste collection and property tax, and how the project gets its water.
Ask about flooding in general
During Cyclone Michaung in December 2023, reports named Sholinganallur, Thoraipakkam and Perungudi as inundated and said OMR stormwater drains laid in 2008 have limited capacity. A report also mentioned damaged compound walls on the Kelambakkam to Vandalur road near Vandalur zoo. This is OMR-wide context, not a verified Kelambakkam record, so ask about the site's ground level and drainage.
