Tambaram: What to Know Before You Look
A major south-west suburban hub on GST Road, with one of the city's biggest railway terminals, large colleges and an export processing zone.
Tambaram is a major suburban node of south-west Chennai on the Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road, in the Chengalpattu district part of the Chennai Metropolitan Area. Pallavaram and Chromepet lie to the north, and Perungalathur and Vandalur to the south-west. East Tambaram, around Selaiyur and Camp Road, runs along the Tambaram to Velachery road towards Medavakkam and is home to Madras Christian College and Air Force Station Tambaram. To the west, the Mudichur side runs out towards the Outer Ring Road.
Tambaram station is one of the primary rail terminals of the Chennai Metropolitan Area, 26 km from Chennai Central, and the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus at Kilambakkam, opened in December 2023, is a short way down the GST Road. The Madras Export Processing Zone, established in 1984, is an employer on the GST Road.

Metro status. No Chennai Metro line runs to Tambaram today. An airport to Kilambakkam extension via Pallavaram, Tambaram and Vandalur has been proposed, and a Tambaram to Velachery line is at the project report stage. Reports on the airport to Kilambakkam extension conflict on whether the Union government has approved it, so treat it as not yet cleared for construction.

What to Check Before You Book in Tambaram
The flood record on the Mudichur side and the completion dates are the main checks.
Check each RERA registration
Estia is TNRERA/35/BLG/0140/2026, Primrose is TN/29/Building/533/2022 and Mabelle is TN/29/Building/380/2022. Search them on the Tamil Nadu RERA website, and ask for Aria's registration number, which was not published on the page we used. Confirm the registered completion date for each.
Look at the flood record if you are near Mudichur
Mudichur and Varadarajapuram flooded repeatedly: water rose to about 6 feet in November 2021 and entered homes in Varadarajapuram and Mudichur in December 2024 during Cyclone Fengal. Reports blame lake releases, overflow of the Adyar river, encroachment of the flood plain and poor desilting. An Adyar river widening between Thiruneermalai and Anagaputhur was reported under way in 2023, and we could not verify its completion. Check the exact site against the local flood record before you book anything on the Tambaram-Mudichur Road side.
